The Caldecott Award
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

The Coretta Scott King Award
This award was designed to commemorate the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and to honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace. The Coretta Scott King Book awards annually recognized outstanding books for young adults and children by African American authors and illustrators that reflect the African American experience.

John Newbury Award
This award is awarded annually by the Association for Library Services to Children, a division of the American library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American Literature for children.

Theodor 'Seuss' Geisel Award
The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award is given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year. The winner(s), recognized for their literary and artistic achievements that demonstrate creativity and imagination to engage children in reading, receives a bronze medal.

Stonewall Award
The first and most enduring award for LGBTQIA+ books is the Stonewall Book Awards, sponsored by the American Library Association's Rainbow Round Table. Since Isabel Miller's Patience and Sarah received the first award in 1971, many other books have been honored for exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender experience.
