Borrowing Materials

Students in Prek - 6th grade may borrow materials for two weeks. Items may be renewed in the library for additional borrowing time, but the student must bring the book to the library for renewal.

Number of books students can borrow by grade:

  • PreK - 1 book

  • Kindergarten - 1 book

  • First Grade - 1 book

  • Second Grade - 1 book

  • Third Grade - 1 book

  • Fourth Grade - 1 book

  • Fifth Grade - 1 book

  • Sixth Grade - 1 book

Overdue/Lost Book Policy

Any student or teacher who is checking out materials from the school library is responsible for the care of these items. With that being said, there are no fines for overdue books. If a book is overdue, we will let students in grades K-6 save one book in the library and pick it up when he or she returns their late books.

Students are responsible for the replacement of damaged or lost books. Library loaning privileges may be suspended until the lost or damaged book bill is paid. If a student has an overdue book, they will receive additional overdue notices every two week after that. When a student has received three notices through school delivery and the overdue book has still not been returned, the library will send a notice home directly to the parent/guardians. The student is offered three possible solutions:

  1. Return the loaned material

  2. Replace or pay for the title (and the money will be returned if the book is eventually found)

  3. Donate an equivalent replacement book to the library.

Book Care Guidelines

The cool thing about the library is that the materials and resources are available for everyone in the school community to use. To make sure we are all able to use the materials at their best, these guidelines will assure a higher life expectancy of the resources:

  1. Be gentle with your books! Use a bookmark to save your place, don’t bend the pages of a book

  2. Return books and other materials when they are due so everyone can enjoy them

  3. Keep books in a safe place at home, away from younger siblings or pets that might unintentionally damage books

  4. Do not eat or drink near a library book. Your book can get damaged, especially if you have sticky hands

  5. Protect your books when the weather is bad by putting them in a plastic bag or a waterproof backpack

  6. Never repair a book at home, please bring it back to the library immediately if it is damaged and we can try to repair it.

Library Expectations

For every person who utilizes the library space, there is a general set of expectations:

  1. Show respect - to the library, librarian (and other teachers) the books, your peers and most of all yourself

  2. Use your inside voice - we want to make sure everyone in the library is able to concentrate on what they are doing. For this, we want to make sure that voices stay at a 0 for direct instruction and silent reading.

    1. Direct instruction - 0

    2. Silent reading - 0

    3. Group work - 1

    4. Check Out - 1

  3. Walk… don’t run - come in quietly using walking feet and quiet voices and sit down in your assigned seat and wait for directions!

  4. Be responsible - take care of the space and the materials we use even when they are not in the library.

  5. Be your favorite self! Achieve nothing less than your best! - work hard looking for “just right” materials, be prepared and ready to listen and learn and ask questions!
