The children will need to be confident with their 2, 5 and 10 x tables. In preparation for Year 3, they may also want to start learning their 3 and 4 x tables. A fun way to practise this at home is to learn some rolling numbers songs. Click on the links below for some ideas.
Science
Our topic this term is called The Apprentice Gardener. In this unit we will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will also be finding out and describing what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
At home, why not try collecting different seeds and comparing the way they look. Draw the seeds and describe them. You could plant some seeds and grow them under different conditions. Which conditions were best for growing? Try growing some seeds in a see-through jar. Watch the seeds germinate and the roots and plant grow.
History
We will continue to learn about the Stone Age in History, moving into the Neolithic period. The children will focus on how historians discovered that early humans were farmers. They will explore the tools used for farming, what they were made of and how they were used. They will also take a look at how farming in the Neolithic Age influenced farming today.
Geography
In Geography we will begin to learn about where food grows around the world. We will discuss different climate zones, and how this influences farming in various countries.
At home, encourage discussions around where our food comes from by looking at the labels of fruits or vegetables.
