I assess student comprehension by:

• Asking frequent questions and look for appropriate responses
• Giving formative assessments at the end of class based on the story
• Using games that drill translation to and from Spanish
• Giving summative translation assessments at the end of each story

I assess student participation daily as it is the cornerstone of acquisition. Participation is part of their grade. To keep track, I:

• Give 100 participation points each trimester assuming that each student will do her 50%
• Take away 1 point after a warning in any given class for lack of engagement
• Record lost points in the grade book on PowerSchool.
