My name is Lisa Kropp and I want to share my Comprehensible Input (CI) classroom with you. I taught Middle School French for 11 years out of a textbook. Although I loved my job and my students, I felt my methods were ineffective and unnatural. The kids were not learning as much as I wanted and they were DEFINITELY not speaking as much as I wanted. Then, my school switched to Spanish schoolwide. With one giant switch came another: I embraced Comprehensible Input as THE research-based, best-practice method for facilitating students' acquisition of a second language. At EdCamps, TPRS training workshops and CI conferences I studied the research, met the practitioners and stuffed my toolkit with amazing activities and resources. It has been 10 years since the switch and my classroom is unrecognizable from what it was before.

I have a large silent reading area with an extensive library and a shelf full of props and stuffed animals. Furthermore, the gamification billboard displays class point totals and jobholders. Every aspect of the room is an integral part of our class culture and community that serves my CI practice.

I didn't just switch languages, I transformed my beliefs, my approach, and my space. As a result, I have watched my students' engagement, acquisition, and JOY skyrocket.
