Miss Baxter runs a half termly book club in room 10 - 'Bubbles' Book Group' where students discuss great books and ideas over biscuits

The library staff run an annual Carnegie book group where students have the opportunity to read, discuss and vote for their favourite novel from the Carnegie short list

Mr O'Hanlon is also helping students to apply for the Orwell Prize for Fiction. This year's theme is 'The Future We Want' and the deadline for entry is the 11th of June. Your piece of writing can take any form and there are fantastic prizes on offer including an award's ceremony for anyone longlisted for a prize. Uniquely, the organisation also provide feedback on initial drafts if you want to submit one. If you are interested in entering or want a teacher to read your work or just to gain some advice, please see Mr O'Hanlon in room 14 or email him ohanlmi@queens.herts.sch.uk.

Mr Millard and Mr Foxall also run an online school paper. If you are interested in an editorial role or would like to submit an article please email either foxallma@queens.herts.sch.uk or millarad@queens.herts.sch.uk.

Finally, if there is enough interest, we are also looking to run a literary society. This would be a weekly or monthly lunchtime event for anyone interested in discussing ideas related to literature such as: 'Does our GCSE English Literature really give students an accurate or enjoyable experience of literature?'; 'Can male writers ever accurately write as women?'; 'Can a film ever be as good as a book?'; 'Should books have an age certification?' If you are interested please come and see Miss Wood in the English office.
