地理研習幫助學生認識由人口急增、環境污染、地區性社會與經濟不平等、資源短缺等所帶來的挑戰。這些議題不僅在中國日益重要，對全球亦具有深遠影響。透過地理學習，學生可發展終身學習所需的基本能力，以及批判性思考、溝通、資訊處理、解難與抉擇等共通技能。地理科所採用的探究式學習取向，進一步培養學生在價值澄清與判斷方面的重要能力，為全人發展奠定基礎。

高中地理科為有志於大學修讀地理的學生建立堅實基礎，亦為準備攻讀其他人文科學、社會科學與環境科學的學生提供更廣的知識視野與高階思維訓練。同時，本科也為未來就業提供多樣選擇，尤其適合需要具備全球視野與空間地域感的職業，如城市與運輸規劃、資源與環境管理、旅遊與休閒管理等；從更廣的層面來看，商業與管理亦是明顯的應用領域。

As an international metropolis, Hong Kong provides a rich context for students to develop a global outlook, appreciate the impacts of globalization, and recognize the importance of international cooperation in addressing global issues. Geography aims to guide students in exploring the interrelationships among people, places, and the environment from spatial and environmental perspectives, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the Earth and the contemporary world.

The study of geography enables students to understand challenges arising from population growth, environmental pollution, regional social and economic inequalities, and resource scarcity. These issues are becoming increasingly significant not only for China but also for the world at large. Geography learning also provides opportunities for students to develop essential lifelong learning abilities, along with generic skills such as critical thinking, communication, information processing, problem-solving, and decision-making. The inquiry-based approach adopted in geography further cultivates students’ abilities in values clarification and judgment, which are fundamental to whole-person development.

Senior Secondary Geography lays a solid foundation for students intending to pursue geography at the tertiary level. It also equips those preparing for further studies in disciplines such as the humanities, social sciences, and environmental sciences with advanced thinking skills and broader perspectives. Beyond academia, the subject offers pathways to a wide range of careers requiring global vision and strong spatial awareness, including urban and transport planning, resource and environmental management, and tourism and leisure management. More broadly, business and management also represent significant fields of application.
