I want to read... 40 books this year. I'm aiming to focus on the crime genre as I'm looking for examples to inspire my own writing.
Date finished: March
Thoughts: A great read for Years 5-9. The main character is dealing with some very big issues as she has terminal cancer. Despite this very sad premise, what I love about this book is how uplifting the main character is. She is dealing with social problems at school with one particular student, and it is this that becomes the focus of the book.
Date finished: Easter holidays
Thoughts: LOVED this book!! Loved the way the novel flipped between the three protagonists. I was constantly trying to work out how they were connected throughout the novel.Â
Date finished: July
Thoughts: Really enjoyed PD James' imagined sequel to Pride and Prejudice. The imagined crime that Wickham gets involved with and that affects Elizabeth and Darcy's family made for a great read. My only misgiving is that it was a little repetitive.
Date finished: Winter holidays
Thoughts: I really enjoyed this. Definitely an adult read, but the issues around race and how it affects relationships was thought provoking. Alix, one of the main characters is awful!! Her character reminded me of June Haywood in Yellow Face.
Loved this! Would rate this even more highly than A Good Girl's Guide To Murder. Loved the Australian setting... felt reminiscent of a teenage version of The Dry (but not as confronting).
LOVED THIS x2!! Wasn't sure if I'd like it as much as the first but Amy Doak kept me absolutely hooked. Clever plot, love the first person perspective... just loved it.
Not as dramatic as The Passengers by Marrs (that I absolutely loved) but still a good read. The different stories (this book is not for you if you don't like multiple perspectives) were VERY different from the Netflix series.
Great, easy, YA page turning romance. Fun and a bit saucy.
