Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)

This Information booklet will provide you with all the necessary information about what we offer in our Ballet stream at the College. Our RAD Ballet grades are a part of our Dance Program and come under the Ballet Stream category. In 2025, we will again be offering the RAD Syllabus from ‘Pre-Primary in Dance’ to ‘Grade 5’ and the Vocational Grades ‘Intermediate Foundation’ to ‘Advanced One’.

What is the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)?

The RAD offers an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate, and reward students of all ages and abilities, outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement.

The graded syllabi provides a broad practical dance education developing the technical, musical and performance skills of the student. All classes will incorporate Classical Ballet with the addition of Character Dance for Grades 1 to 5 and pointe work for Vocational Grades.

NEW in 2026

Pymble Dance is excited to announce new updates to our Ballet program for 2026. With a refreshed schedule, additional classes, and a new uniform, our dancers will feel proud to be part of a program that celebrates excellence, discipline, and artistry.

At Pymble Dance, we believe Ballet is the cornerstone of all dance training. It builds strength, alignment, control, turnout, balance, and placement - the essential foundations for every dance style. The structure and precision of ballet also fosters focus and perseverance, while its artistry develops musicality, expression, and storytelling through movement.

We can’t wait to see our students embrace the next chapter of Ballet in 2026.

Saturdays

We are extending our classes to Saturdays, which aligns with the structure of external studios, in turn gives students more time during the week rather than overload the afternoons with multiple classes.

Ballet Extension Program

Junior

The Junior Ballet Extension Program is designed for committed students in Grades 4 and 5 RAD who are already demonstrating strong technique and artistry. This invitation based program offers accelerated training to prepare dancers for the demands of secondary level extension pathways.
Through advanced coaching and guided mentorship, students will refine their technique, broaden their artistry, and strengthen both classical and contemporary foundations, building the discipline, confidence, and versatility essential for future opportunities in dance.

Requirements:

Invitation only – students will be contacted by the Dance Department. Students are also able to email a request for the Ballet Co-ordinator to consider.
Grade 4 and 5 students only
Must attend 2 syllabus classes; Junior Ballet Monday 3.45pm; Progressing Dance Technique (PDT) Monday 4.45pm
Students must achieve a minimum of 70% in their previous years Ballet Exam
There will be solos/duos/trios and group competitions as well as Showcase
Students in the Extension Ballet Program will be featured in the 2026 Opera House Classical item for 110 PLC

Secondary

The Secondary Ballet Extension Program is for dedicated students in Years 7 to 12 who wish to take their training beyond the RAD syllabus through advanced coaching and mentorship. This invitation based program nurtures each dancer’s individual strengths while preparing them for prestigious competitions, auditions, and the technical and artistic demands of HSC Dance.
Students are supported to extend their technical ability, enhance their versatility, and grow as expressive, professional minded artists equipped for today’s dance world.

Full Extension Program:

Invitation only – students will be contacted by the Dance Department. Students are also able to email a request for the Ballet Co-ordinator to consider
Must attend 2 syllabus classes, pointe class
Saturday classes – Variations and Repertoire 9:30am; Contemporary Ensemble 10.30am; PDT class 11.30am
Monday Open Ballet 5.30pm
Invitations to solos/duos/trios
Students in the Extension Ballet Program will be featured in the 2026 Opera House Classical item for 110 PLC

Partial Extension Program:

For Year 11 and 12 Elective students and Company Dancers only
They can choose a minimum of two of the above options from the full extension program.
Will not be included in the 2026 opera House Classical item or Showcase
