Accounting 1
Accounting 1
For every student who is looking to pursue a degree in the field of Business, one of the requirements will Accounting which is one of the classes that can pose the greatest challenge for students to pass. We aim to properly prepare our learners for this requirement with Accounting 1 and Computerized Accounting 2 classes which are offered within the Val Tech Academy Business & Finance pathway.
Students will learn the accounting process from a commercial business point of view from understanding the classification of debits and credits, logging all of a business's activities by journalizing transactions, updating ledger accounts, and performing the closing entries to produce the Balance Sheet and Income Statement, completing the accounting process.
The first semester, students will be performing accounting tasks for a sole-proprietor that provides services to their clients, (not product based). We will learn about how a sole owner receives income from the business in the form of equity withdrawals. The second semester we will be learning the accounting process for a corporation that sells product to their client base which includes complexities such as tracking and updating inventory. Since a corporation is owned by its stockholders, income passes through by the declaration of dividends to pay the stockholders. During the second semester students will also perform basic payroll functions which include the calculation and withholding of taxes which is a very insightful business learning experience.
