Learning @ Home provision
When a lockdown or isolation is in progress, we will be providing a distant learning provision to our students.
The transition to distance learning may be challenging for families. Parents will need to think differently about how to support their children; how to create structures and routines that allow their children to be successful; and how to monitor and support their children’s learning. Some students will thrive with distance learning, while others may struggle. We acknowledge you will be dealing with all sorts of factors so this is intended as a guide to help you, not add pressure, just do what you can. Let's be kind to each other as we find our way through this experience together.
The teaching staff have been working diligently to provide a learning platform for students in their home. You can access this platform by going to the Learning @ Home website. From there you will be able to access the team planning for online/offline learning and also the Zoom schedule for video conferencing with classes/teams.
Further to this, are the provisions being made by the Ministry of Education through their Learning From Home website and also educational television, Papa Kāinga TV. Papa Kāinga TV will be free to air, on TVNZ on Demand. All of these measures are being provided to assist families/whānau bring some routine and normality; however, we appreciate that parents will drive what is and isn’t possible in their homes.
Some guidelines and expectations for students and whānau to consider:
The school values of Tū Teitei (Stand Tall), Mahitahi (Collaboration) and Angitu (Success) must be followed at all times. This is especially important when we interact digitally.
Engage and do the best you can. Learning @ home is not supposed to replicate the classroom, the teacher or the school environment, it is about opportunities for your child/ren to learn at home utilising various online/offline tools provided by the teaching staff and to develop an increasing independence within this environment.
Everyone may well be nervous to start with and this can be displayed in various forms, e.g. reluctance, anger, emotional outbursts etc. Reassurance will help your child to find their learning at home ‘normal’.
If you have connectivity or internet issues, walk away and try again later; if problems continue, email your child’s teacher.
If you have other relevant learning that you’re encouraging, e.g. baking, fitness, household chores, nature walks, environmental work then please continue with these amazing opportunities as a whānau while you’re home together.
Please remember, how you choose to engage with the learning we provide each day is over to your family situation. Do what works for you and your family.
