Blended E-Learning at Pyes Pā School
At Pyes Pā School, we embrace a blended e-learning approach. This means we combine traditional teaching methods with modern digital tools to enhance the learning experience. Our primary goal is to empower students to become discerning learners—teaching them to select the most effective tool for any given task, whether that is a pen and paper or a computer.
Why Chromebooks?
Chromebooks are the leading choice for New Zealand schools because they are versatile, user-friendly, and secure. We prioritize student privacy and provide a "worry-free" digital environment.
Management: All devices are managed via our school network and the Hapara platform, which allows teachers to monitor and support student progress in real-time.
Accessibility: With various sizes and affordable entry-level models, they are accessible to all families.
1:1 Vision: We are committed to a 1:1 device ratio in our middle and senior school. Currently, our Year 7–8 classes are fully 1:1, with over 90% coverage across our remaining senior classes.
The "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) Option
If you already own a Chromebook or choose to purchase one, your child is welcome to bring it to school.
Ownership: A purchased device remains your child’s personal property. They can use it throughout Years 4–8, take it home daily, and keep it when they eventually move on from Pyes Pā.
No Obligation: Purchasing a device is entirely optional. Students who do not bring their own device are not disadvantaged; they have full access to school-owned Chromebooks during class hours (though these must remain at school).
Advantages of a Personal Chromebook
Seamless Learning: Students have a consistent experience at school and home.
Efficiency: Faster setup times and an all-day battery life mean more time spent learning.
Reliability: High performance over the device's lifespan with built-in protection against viruses and malware.
Integration: Designed to work perfectly with GSuite for Education and our school management systems.
