Upon entering the house, I see the porch as a good setback to introduce the exhibition, the ancestral house and the sections or collections; and the exterior wall be used to talk further about the house.
The foyer (receiving area) is already pre-decided to be a family tree wall, something that every guest family member could appreciate even after the reunion event. This is perhaps the best place to hang birthday list framed between the antique mirror.
Nicanor and Anastacia's sections are also pre-decided to be in Lolo Nick's bedroom and Lola Tasing's old niched storage turned open-view glass cabinet. Not only their locations are relevant or genuine to their collection but they are also apt to hold their objects.
The breakfast nook before Nicanor's bedroom is set with old photographs, This also primers the audience taking them to the past visually (thru the photos) then finally thru the environment as they enter a bedroom where Lolo Nick seem to just have left for errand.
The gathering area is a combination of the living -dining area; where the speaker or performer could stand in a pivotal position beside the staircase allowing vista of breakfast nook and the living-receiving area. It is good to note that this is a middle class house and not generally made for big gatherings like a function hall. In this set up we are able to capture a 27 sqm allowing more or less 25-30 person capacity (hopefully no social distancing required anymore).
Contemporary works are scattered everywhere, dining, restroom, stairway, painted banga underneath stairway and second floor hallway. There seem to tell a stories based on how the new generations feel about their heritage.
The renovated porch, foyer, and living area. Seeing the space and mocking up sizes of possible exhibition objects and captions allows me to see possibilities and scenarios during the exhibit event (family reunion).
In Nicanor's Bedroom, I learned that the watch repair table has been acquired by my uncle who lives a town away. In the exhibition, we will consider borrowing the furniture for proper display. Also the carpentry tools are with him. The white estante (or cabinet of curiosity) also constructed by Lolo Nick, will be used to display these carpentry tools as well as his travel souvenirs.
