Below are the steps for getting the equipment set up for a lesson with Google Expeditions. Allow yourself 15 minutes to get the equipment ready before a lesson.
Below are the steps for getting the equipment set up for a lesson with Google Expeditions. Allow yourself 15 minutes to get the equipment ready before a lesson.
- Plug in the router, and wait for the light to turn on.
- You will need to plug in the power cord and also the Ethernet cable from a port in the wall to the Ethernet port in the back of the router.
If you have this router, the lights should come on in the front once you plug it in.
The Linksys router has only 1 light that comes on at the back.
2. Turn on all the student devices (phones) and teacher device (iPad) by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
3. Connect the teacher and student devices to the router’s WiFi. This should happen automatically as the WiFi is saved in the settings of the phone. (Expeditions does not currently work over the site WiFi.)
- If the devices do not automatically connect, click on the settings gear, select "WiFi/ Internet", then select the WiFi named "Google-Expeditions". The password is "Google2018" and should already be saved in the phones.
4. Open the Expeditions app on the teacher iPad first, and select the Expedition you want to use (you will need to "Guide" the Expedition).
5. Open the Expeditions app on the student devices, and select the tab that says "Class" in the bottom right of the screen.
6. When the “Join” button appears next to a picture of the teacher's Expedition, click on it on each student device. Click "Join" once more when the expedition code appears.
7. Load the phones into the viewers (VR) or onto the selfie sticks (AR), and once you have confirmed the phones are ready (green ready circle appears on phones) close the viewers (VR) or pass out the selfie sticks (AR).
8. Play the Expedition from the teacher tablet.
