According to Google, Mother's Day's modern origins are traced back to the 20th century when Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis, spearheaded a movement to honor mothers. Ann Jarvis, a social activist, had organized Mother's Work Days before the Civil War and later, Mothers' Friendship Day, aiming to promote reconciliation. After her mother's death, Anna dedicated her life to making Mother's Day a national holiday. She initiated the first Mother's Day celebration in 1908, sending white carnations and hosting a memorial service. This campaign, along with the efforts of other pioneers like Julia Ward Howe and Juliet Calhoun Blakely, eventually led to President Woodrow Wilson declaring Mother's Day a national holiday in 1914.
