Best Work - work that has met proficiency and exemplifies highest quality product, learning, or reflection.
Core Values - universal respect, personal responsibility, and academic excellence.
Evidence - an artifact from a piece of work or an activity accompanied by a reflection that connects that artifact to a specific skill named in the Expectations for Demonstrating Teaching and Learning.
Expectations for Demonstrating Teaching and Learning - five categories (Academic, Social, Civil, Technology & Life-long Learning and Career).
Growth - starting from an established and unique baseline for each student… moving from one level of achievement to a higher one and/or demonstrating increasingly sophisticated work; achieving proficiency in each grade level or moving from not proficient to proficient between grades; students are responsible for demonstrating growth.
Honors portfolio - starting in 10th grade, student-driven projects, such as community service, that goes above and beyond the portfolio requirements for graduation.
Pathway - multiple ways to align work with expectations; one assignment could serve for multiple expectations OR a student might ask to use an assignment to demonstrate proficiency of an expectation for which it is not the primary.
Portfolio - collection of student work that shows growth and proficiency in meeting all of the required expectations for graduation and illustrates the student’s expression of individuality.
Portfolio Worthy Assessments (PWA) - assignments in which the learning targets meeting one of the Expectations for Demonstrating Teaching and Learning and requires students to reflect on their work and process.
Proficiency - meeting the expectations on a specific rubric.
Pro-Rated students - I. A student who has entered PVRS after the 9th grade (transfer) who will have a modified portfolio to be determined on a case by case basis by guidance, advisor, and student. II. A student who is on an IEP will have a modified portfolio to be determined on a case by case basis by the Learning Center, guidance, and student.
Senior Exhibition - final tour with the student’s chosen portfolio and includes individual components (resume, community service project, etc) with reflection.
Tours - annual reflections based on growth and proficiency of students’ work as demonstrated by work in their portfolio.
