Honors Stem Collaborative (HSC)

This course is designed for the freshmen CREST student. Honors Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Collaborative, is offered as an interdisciplinary, project-based course structured to provide students with the overarching knowledge and skills needed to be successful within the CREST program. Honors STEM Collaborative removes the traditional barriers erected between the four STEM disciplines, by integrating the four subjects into one cohesive means of teaching and learning. This thematic approach allows students to explore math and science in a more application based context, while helping them to develop the critical thinking skills that can be applied to all facets of their work and academic lives. Experimentation and research methods, analytical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication and peer review, all 21st Century skills, provide students with an avenue to be successful within the CREST program.

This research-based course is taught on a block schedule for one semester. Information for the course will be available via the instructor and the Honors STEM Collaborative website. Each student will use their pvlearners account to access information and post assignments and projects for review and grading. Students will select one research topic to develop, research and present for the semester. Students may initiate projects or choose projects suggested by the instructor.
