Data page update: This page is being updated over the coming weeks to include links to downloadable versions of the dataset in multiple formats for different GIS and research workflows.
This map presents Administrative 2 (Admin 2), the diocesan level of the Global Ecclesiastical Jurisdictions Repository, showing dioceses and equivalent ecclesiastical jurisdictions worldwide. In canon law, a diocese is a particular Church, and several other territorial forms—including territorial prelatures, territorial abbeys, apostolic vicariates, and apostolic prefectures—are recognized as equivalent to dioceses in certain respects (CIC, can. 368).
The map includes selected current bishop/ordinary information and Catholic Church statistics, but the public layer contains a limited set of attributes. More data-rich versions are available for qualified research and collaboration. For information about access to additional data, contact m.burhans@pust.it.
