It is Pure Heart Behavioral Therapy's mission to use the least intrusive methods necessary to maintain safety. In an effort to accomplish this, Pure Heart has been trained in the Marcus Crisis Prevention Procedures. These procedures may utilize behavior management techniques that involve physically redirecting the student or crisis management techniques that may involve de-escalation or restraint.
These procedures will be utilized to maintain safety in the event that a child displays aggressive, self-injurious, or destructive behaviors. Behavior Management Procedures are used as part of a comprehensive plan designed to safely manage student aggressive behaviors. These procedures are generally used to redirect behavior before it becomes crisis and may include techniques such as transport procedures or prompting procedures.
In the event that all other prevention strategies have been exhausted, trained staff from Pure Heart Behavioral Therapy will be called to assess and stabilize the situation. The main goal is to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The team will begin by using Crisis Prevention, Behavior Management, and De-escalation techniques. If, and only if, problem behavior escalates to a crisis situation would more intrusive procedures (e.g., restraint) be considered. De-escalation and restraint strategies will only be used on a short term basis and should only be labeled as a crisis the first time it occurs.
An After Crisis Review (ACR) meeting with staff will be held following every crisis intervention. Parents will be then be notified and asked to attend a Post Crisis meeting. A Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) will be created and agreed upon by all team members. Parents are required to attend this meeting. If a parent is not able to attend, a child may be asked to follow an alternative schedule until a meeting can be held.
