Thank you for your interest in presenting at the Purdue Global Village. Whether you are delivering a live session or contributing asynchronous content, these guidelines will help you prepare a high-quality, engaging, and compliant presentation.
[ ] Review the Zoom System Requirements to ensure your hardware and connection are compatible.
[ ] Verify that all external sources, media, and Generative AI tools are correctly cited.
[ ] Test your microphone, camera, and screen-sharing capabilities.
[ ] Secure a quiet, well-lit environment with a neutral background for live or recorded sessions.
Live presentations are hosted via Zoom and are strictly scheduled for 45 minutes total. Please structure your time using the following breakdown to ensure adequate time for engagement:
Presentation Material: 30–35 minutes
Audience Q&A / Discussion: 10–15 minutes
Asynchronous contributions offer flexibility for attendees to engage with your work on demand. Please adhere to the following technical and formatting constraints:
Pre-Recorded Videos & Podcasts: Must be no longer than 10 to 15 minutes in length. Standard video format must be submitted as an MP4 file. Audio files must be submitted as MP3.
Digital Posters: Must be submitted as an accessible presentation file (Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, PDF, etc.).
Accessibility: All asynchronous media must be accessible. Please review the CTL's accessibility guidelines and resources for more information.
While custom designs are welcome, presenters may also use official university branded slides.
Readability:
Use high-contrast color schemes (e.g., dark text on a light background).
Avoid crowded slides; aim for a maximum of 6 lines of text per slide.
Font Style and Sizes:
Avoid overly decorative fonts. Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Tahoma, Calibri, and Aptos are recommended font options.
Use at least 24pt font for body text and 36pt–40pt for slide titles to ensure visibility for all attendees.
Accessibility:
Include descriptive alt-text for any charts, graphs, or essential images used in your presentation.
Incorporate verbal descriptions of all visual elements included in your presentation
All presenters must maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. Every idea, quote, data point, or image that is not your original work must be properly credited.
Purdue Global supports the ethical and transparent use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. If you use an AI tool to assist in brainstorming, outlining, writing, generating media, or creating content for your presentation, you must disclose it.
How to Cite AI: Please review and follow the APA formatting rules for citing regarding AI-generated text and imagery.
AI Imagery: Any AI-generated graphics or images must include a caption directly beneath them.
Ensure you have the legal right or permission to use any copyrighted videos, music, images, or extensive text portions in your presentation.
Use royalty-free repositories (Unsplash, Pixabay, Creative Commons) for decorative imagery, and always provide attribution where required.
💡
Quick Tip: Whether presenting live or asynchronously, aim to keep your content focused, highly visual, accessible, and interactive. Review the specific guidelines below to ensure your session aligns with Purdue Global Village standards.
Slide Design: To maintain visual clarity, limit slides to a maximum of 6 lines of text and 6 words per line. Avoid dense walls of text; use bullet points and bold key phrases to guide the viewer’s eye.
Prioritize Accessibility:
Ensure a high contrast ratio between your text and background (e.g., dark text on a light background).
Include descriptive Alt Text for all images, charts, and graphs.
Avoid using color as the only way to convey meaning or data.
Copyright & Citations: Ensure all images, data, and media clips are either royalty-free or properly cited on the slide.
The 7–10 Minute Rule: Audience attention naturally drifts. Plan an active engagement pivot every 7 to 10 minutes. Examples include polls, typed chat responses, or a collaborative activity.
Managing Chat and Q&A:
You will have a Conference Crew support for basic technical issues within Zoom and you are responsible for addressing content questions or the use of any tools outside of Zoom.
Build explicit "Chat Breaks" into your presentation rather than trying to read the chat while speaking.
Tech Hitch Protocol: If your audio or video cuts out during a live session, do not panic. Take these steps:
Wait 30 seconds to see if the issue resolves.
If the issue doesn't resolve, close Zoom completely and attempt to re-enter the event.
If necessary, restart your computer or try an alternative device.
The Conference Crew team will communicate with the audience while you reconnect.
Tech Check: Log into your assigned Zoom Events room 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time for a mandatory mic, camera, and screen-share check.
Use Action-Oriented Verbs: Align your session objectives with Bloom’s Taxonomy. Avoid passive verbs like "Understand" or "Learn about." Instead, use measurable, action-oriented verbs.
Instead of: "Understand AI tools."
Use: "Identify three ways to integrate AI into your weekly grading workflow."
Keep it Focused: Limit your presentation to 2 or 3 core learning objectives. Trying to cover more in a short session leads to rushed delivery and lower retention.
Align with Your Proposal: Ensure the final objectives delivered in your session perfectly match the abstract submitted during the proposal process. Attendees choose sessions based on these promises.
Technical Deliverables:
Format: Asynchronous presentations can be submiited as an MP4, MP3, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, or PDF file. Other formats may be acceptable - reach out to pgvillage@purdueglobal.edu to request a differentl file type.
Resolution: 1080p (1920x1080) is recommended for text readability.
Length: Video and audio presentations must not exceed 15 minutes. Aim for concise delivery.

Asynchronous Engagement Plan: Your presentation is not "set it and forget it."
Asynchronous sessions will provide space for a brief "elevator pitch" to entice viewers to engage with your content. Ensure your pitch is attention grabbing and concise.
Ensure visuals are eye-catching and accessible. Review information about accessibility guidelines.
