Purdue Global and VR: How a Nursing School is Addressing a National Crisis Through VR Training

According to Melissa Burdi, Dean and Vice President of Purdue Global School of Nursing, around 100,000 nurses left the profession between 2021 and 2023. Clearly there was an urgent need to attract and retain talent. As national educators, Purdue Global could play a vital role in increasing the pipeline of nurses, but there was a problem: traditional nursing training wasn’t designed for working adults. Vote for the 2024 Purdue Global Village Conference Theme

Preparations for the 2024 Purdue Global Village professional development conference are underway, and we need your help with this year's conference theme. Please vote on the theme by Wednesday, June 5.

Key considerations include the conference mission and current trends in online teaching and learning. The theme should be brief and encompass a vision that will guide the content for presentation proposals at the conference. More information about the conference is available on the website.

Vote for your favorite theme by Wednesday, June 5, at 11:59 pm ET.

Updated Learning Outcome Assessment Workshop Available

The Assessment and Research team, in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning, has updated CTL025: Learning Outcomes Assessment. This asynchronous training course is available to all faculty and staff at Purdue Global. 

The course explores how assessing learning outcomes benefits the university, enhances teaching practices, and ultimately improves student learning experiences. Additionally, the material identifies the significance of course-level assessment and shares how to assess student work using rubrics to ensure consistency and fairness.

Now Accepting Proposals for The Guardianship's October Issue

The Purdue Global Guardianship Journal is accepting proposals for October 2024 publication. The theme is “Professional Standards.” It captures the essence of professional guidelines, ethics, behavior, skills, accountability, communication practices, and protocols within various public safety disciplines (Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Homeland Security, and Law.) In the public safety/criminal justice discipline, “professional standards” are paramount in providing system checks and balances.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Faculty Learning Community

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning FLC will foster a culture of evidence-based teaching practices, faculty engagement in educational research, and dissemination of impactful findings, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of teaching and learning at the institution. Participants will explore SoTL projects, identify research opportunities, examine relevant literature, participate in research, review the IRB proposal process, and share project results. The SoTL FLC provides monthly accountability meetings, feedback, and support.
