A Message From Jon Harbor, Provost

Dear Colleagues,

It is with a profound sense of honor and humility that I serve as the Provost at PG. Each day, I have the privilege of collaborating with an extraordinary group of talented colleagues who share an unwavering commitment to the success of adult learners. Our institution is guided by a clear and compelling mission, and a visionary leader, and it fills me with pride to witness the remarkable achievements we are accomplishing.

As PG evolves to adapt to the changing landscape of our world, we remain steadfast in our dedication to supporting our outstanding faculty and staff while always keeping our focus on the success of learners with diverse experiences, circumstances, and aspirations. The passion and dedication that each of you brings to this shared mission is nothing short of inspiring.

Last week, Chancellor Dooley let you know that I have requested that my term as provost come to an end in January 2024, and that we are launching a search for our next provost. I am eager to support a smooth transition for PG's next Provost, and I have every confidence that they will not only continue our ongoing initiatives but also bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the important work that we all hold so dear.

Throughout the remainder of my term, I am fully committed to supporting Chancellor Dooley and the remarkable team at PG. Together, we will continue to pursue our mission of delivering transformative success for adults and their communities through high-quality and authentic online learning.

As I reflect on my time as Provost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Your unwavering dedication and boundless talent have been instrumental in our collective achievements. It is your tireless efforts and commitment that have made PG the outstanding institution it is today.

As we embark on this transitional journey, I know we will remain united in our commitment to excellence, innovation, and success for our diverse learners and their many communities. The future holds great promise for PG, and I am excited to witness the continued growth and success that lies ahead.

Thank you for being the heart and soul of PG. Together, the PG community will continue to make a profound difference in the lives of learners and their communities.

With warm regards and heartfelt appreciation,

Hail Purdue Global,

Jon

Boiler Up! Homecoming 2023

It was a beautiful fall day in West Lafayette on Saturday, September 30, when Purdue Global participated in this year’s Homecoming festivities. Boilermaker Boulevard was full of activities and tents for fellow Boilermakers to visit, including one for Purdue Global. A combination of current students, prospective students, and curious West Lafayette grads stopped by to check out our tent, talk about their experiences, and grab some PG swag. Chancellor Frank Dooley's "Back to Class" presentation on Friday was well received. The new giant Purdue Global logo sculpture was a big hit with visitors and increased the University's visibility. The Boilermakers beat Illinois 44-19 to cap off a great weekend. A big thank you to Jamie Linville, Faculty, School of Multidisciplinary and Professional Studies, for representing Purdue Global at our booth!

Recognizing Spam and Phishing Emails

Purdue Global IT would like to remind everyone that it is important to stay alert and strive to protect your account and personal information. Email security is a top priority for our organization, and it's crucial that all faculty and staff are well-informed about the threats of spam and phishing emails. To ensure the safety and integrity of our systems and data, please take a moment to review the following information and best practices.

1. Understanding Spam and Phishing Emails:

Spam Emails: Spam emails are unsolicited messages sent in bulk, often for commercial purposes. They can clutter your inbox and may contain unwanted content, advertisements, or links to potentially harmful websites.

Phishing Emails: Phishing emails are deceptive messages designed to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information. These emails often impersonate trusted entities to gain your trust. The attacks are intentionally sneaky and seemingly trustworthy, often appearing to be sent by someone affiliated with PG, possibly in your contacts. Be aware that just because an email is from a purdueglobal.edu address does NOT necessarily mean it is legitimate or safe!

2. How to Recognize Spam and Phishing Emails:

3. What to Do if You Receive a Suspicious Email:

This information can also be found on the Recognizing Spam and Phishing Email page on PGIT’s website.

Laptop Replacement Initiative

Purdue Global IT would like to announce our latest initiative to ensure faculty and staff have access to the latest tools and resources in a secure environment. As a part of this initiative, we will implement a new policy to replace our PG-issued computing hardware (i.e., laptops and desktops) on a five-year cycle.

Beginning In FY24, we are set to take a significant leap forward in this new initiative by retiring approximately 100 units. This will go a long way toward phasing out older units, some of which date back to 2013. As a result of this strategic move, we want to inform you that, with the exception of new hires, we will not be approving any new computer orders. We understand that technology issues will arise, and if you are experiencing an issue with your computer, we ask that you submit an incident ticket via ServiceNow for assistance.

If you have any questions, email PGIT@purdueglobal.edu.

Teresa Kelly

In Memoriam: Teresa “TK” Kelly

The Department of English and Rhetoric is saddened to announce the passing of full-time instructor Teresa “TK” Kelly who had been with the university for over 20 years. TK was well known for her dynamic support of many Purdue Global initiatives and her dedication to students and her colleagues. She was a guiding presence through times of change, most recently helping 17 new full-time faculty transition to their new role during the restructuring. A Padlet site has been created for those who wish to share memories, photos, and/or condolences with her family. A memorial dinner with a virtual component so that her virtual PG family can attend if they wish is being planned for later this month.
