Purdue Delegation Embarks on USS Nimitz
It was the experience of a lifetime for members of a Purdue University delegation as they cruised the Pacific Ocean on the USS Nimitz with almost 5,000 sailors. Frank Dooley, Chancellor of Purdue Global; Dimitrios Peroulis, Senior Vice President for Purdue University Online; and Kelvin Gumbs, Executive Director for Educational Partnerships in Purdue’s Office of Industry Partnerships, participated in this firsthand experience, which offered a unique view into the training-rich environment of sailors at sea, learning about ways to strengthen educational opportunities for officers and enlisted personnel.
“It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Dooley said of his weekend at sea. Approximately 300 dignitaries a year visit the Nimitz (CVN 68), a supercarrier and the lead ship of the U.S. Navy’s Nimitz class of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. Read more about this memorable experience.

Laptop Replacement Initiative
Purdue Global IT would like to introduce our latest initiative to ensure faculty and staff access to the latest tools and resources in a secure environment. As a part of this initiative, we will implement a new policy to replace our personal computing hardware (i.e., laptops and desktops) on a five-year cycle. Technology evolves rapidly, and staying up-to-date is essential to maintaining productivity and security. In FY24, we expect to make a very big step in this new process by replacing ~100 units. This will go a long way toward removing units from service that are as old as 2013. If you believe your unit is 5+ years of age and you are not notified of a pending replacement, don’t worry, as you will be part of the first FY25 group.

Understanding the Rubric Data Report
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), in collaboration with the Assessment and Research team, has a new workshop with guidance on how faculty and staff can use the Rubric Data Report. The Rubric Data Report provides detailed information about how students are performing on specific aspects of their assignments and discussion boards. As such, this is among the best data available to identify where students are struggling and where scoring or student performance might be inconsistent. All faculty are encouraged to review these data in support of continuous improvement in course content and instruction. The workshop, CTL026 Rubric Data Report, is available to all faculty and staff on the CTL Workshop site.
Veteran Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is Veteran Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. More than 6,000 veterans die by suicide each year in the United States, according to the Veterans Administration.
Student Life sponsors two organizations for military affiliated students: Student Military Association, which is open to any current or former member of the armed services, in addition to spouses and family members; and SALUTE, an invitation-only academic honor society for current and former soldiers and sailors.
Additional mental health resources for veterans and their families are available at the VA's website, and the Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7, regardless of benefit status.
If you are a veteran and have not updated your employee profile to reflect this status, please reference this SuccessFactors Quick Reference Guide and follow the steps to update the Global Information section.
