Your primary focus during fieldwork should be acquiring new behavior-analytic skills related to the BACB Fifth Edition Task List.
Activities must be consistent with the dimensions of ABA identified by Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968) in the article “Some current dimensions of applied behavior analysis,” published in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis.
The following are some potential activities you could practice:
• Conduct assessments related to the need for behavioral intervention (e.g., stimulus preference assessment, functional assessment).
• Design, implement, and systematically monitor skill-acquisition and behavior-reduction programs.
• Oversee the implementation of behavior-analytic programs by others.
• Train, design behavioral systems, and practice performance management.
You will also want to engage in other activities that are usually directly related to behavior analysis, such as attending or planning meetings regarding the behavior analytic program, researching the literature related to the program, and talking to individuals about the program
CONSIDERING A FIELDWORK SITE
For your ABA fieldwork, you will be required to complete 150 hours in conjunction with your elective fieldwork course, PS555. It is important that you carefully consider the selection of a potential site for fieldwork. The fieldwork placement is an opportunity for you to explore potential career orientations and to enjoy a carefully supervised opportunity to interact with real-world clients.
Purdue University Global requires that all fieldwork sites be approved in writing before the beginning of any fieldwork hours. This is important as state licensing laws require approved University supervision for you to engage with clients. You will not be eligible to register for the elective fieldwork course until all pre-experience paperwork is submitted to CORE ELMS and approved by Purdue University Global Clinical Placement Team by the required paperwork deadline.
It is your responsibility to locate a placement site and submit all required documentation related to the fieldwork. It is necessary to begin your exploration early (3 to 6 Months) to ensure that the University approval process does not delay the onset of your fieldwork.
