Confluence is in its 9th year, providing an alternate learning experience for our students. We are always very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to help our students explore as many real-life learning opportunities as possible. We are pursuing four major initiatives this year to build a great foundation for many years to come. We would love to have your help and support in these areas. You can help by donating items, gift cards, money, or your time in any or all of these areas.
Life Skills
We are looking for opportunities to teach our kids as many life skills as possible so that they have the skills needed to survive and thrive in the world as they graduate. If you want to help, the main focuses are cooking, vehicle maintenance, communications skills, finance/ budget, basic home repairs, etc. We would love to have you if you have these skills and want to give a "class" on them! If you believe these are important skills for soon-to-be graduates, please help!
Art
We have VERY artistic students at Confluence, and we would love to allow them to work with a variety of creative mediums. Our focus here is watercolor, acrylics, paper mache, and more. With that, we are looking for all things related to these mediums (brushes, canvas, etc.). We are also looking for old records, skate decks, and old CDs if you have any lying around! We all know the importance of students using both sides of their brains! Let's help them explore their artistic side.
Construction/ Gardening
We have had a very successful construction math class for several years now that allows our students to be hands-on with their learning. We'd love Home Depot gift cards, various garden supplies, any building materials and wood, and any building supplies such as hammers, nails, screws, saws, etc. It's gratifying to see our students so excited about what they have built and accomplished with their own two hands.
Environmental Exploration
Last spring, we had a truly life-changing event. We took 12 students on a 3-day/2-night backpacking trip to Pt Reyes, Ca. These kids pushed themselves to hike over 25 miles with packs, slept in tents (some for the first time), ate community meals out of their canteen cups, explored the beaches and forest, and grew as humans. Bonds were formed, and lessons were learned that just don't happen in a classroom. We would love nothing more than to continue these types of events. We would love to build our opportunities and our outdoor supplies (camping/ backpacking gear, hiking shoes, show-shoeing equipment, and more).
