2023-2024 Initiatives

Confluence is in its 7th year providing an alternate learning experience for our students.  We are always very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to help our students explore as many real life learning opportunities as possible. We have 4 major initiatives we are pursuing this year to build a great foundation for many years to come.  We would love to have your help and support in these areas.  You can help by donating items, gift cards, money, or your time in any or all of these areas.

Life Skills

We are looking for opportunities to teach our kids as many life skills as possible so that as they graduate they have the necessary skills to survive and thrive in the world.  If you would like to help, the main focuses are cooking, vehicle maintenance, communications skills, finance/ budget, basic home repairs, etc.  If you have these skills and want to give a "class" on them we would love to have you!  If you believe these are important skills for soon to be graduates to have please help in this area if you are able!

Art

We have VERY artistic students at Confluence and we would love to give them the opportunity to work with a variety of artistic mediums.  Our focus here is water color, acrylics, paper mache,  and more.  With that we are looking for all things related to these mediums (brushes, canvas, etc)  We are also looking for old records, skate decks, and old CD's if you have any laying around!  We all know the importance of students using both sides of their brains!  Lets help them explore their artistic side.

Construction/ Gardening

We have had a very successful construction math class for several years now that allows our students to be hands on with their learning.  We'd love Home Depot gift cards, various garden supplies, any building materials and wood, and any building supplies such as hammers, nails, screws, saws, etc.  It's incredibly rewarding to see our students so excited about what they have build and accomplished with their own two hands.

Environmental Exploration

Last spring we have a truly life changing event.  We took 12 students on a 3 day/ 2 night backpacking trip to Pt Reyes, Ca.  These kids pushed themselves to hike over 25 miles with packs, slept in tents (some for the first time ever), ate community meals out of their canteen cup, explored the beaches and forest and grew as humans.  Bonds were formed and lessons learned that just don't happen in a classroom.  We would love nothing more than to continue these types of events.  We would love to build our opportunities and our outdoor supplies (camping/ backpacking gear, hiking shoes, show shoeing equiptment, and more).
