Unit 1 - Ecology
Unit Outcomes
Understand that environmental changes in an environment result in changes in the growth and homeostasis of organisms and food webs.
Understand that biotic & abiotic factors affect cells, organisms, populations, communities and ecosystems. Be able to give an example of each.
Understand that at each of the above organizational levels, there is an exchange of matter and/or energy.
Understand that changes occur within and outside of ecosystems as a result of information exchange.
Understand and give examples of how information can be communicated between organisms, and sometimes this information causes a reaction.
Understand that populations interact with each other within communities.
Understand energy and matter pyramids within an ecosystem.
Understand how competition among organisms changes population size and distribution of species.
Understand succession and that ecosystem distribution changes over time.
Understand the importance of biodiversity to the stability of an ecosystem and that population trends change with the level of variation in a population.
Understand human impacts on ecosystems.
