How to Apply for the

Stephen Straker Memorial Graduate Student Fund

Graduate students may apply for assistance from the Stephen Straker Memorial Graduate Student Fund, established to honor one of the founders of the Columbia History of Science Group. Please send an email by February 1st to Melinda Gormley stating that you would like to apply for a reduction in registration and lodging fees. Include a brief paragraph stating your reasons for attending CHSG.

At CHSG each year, Straker would stand in front of the fireplace after dinner on Saturday to describe the view of the US from Canada, recounting news from the past year with wit and humor. He taught in the Department of History at University of British Columbia. An annual distinguished lecture is held in his name and you can learn about Stephen's research and teaching from the UBC website.
