In honor of founding member of the Columbia History of Science Group, Paul Lawrence Farber, this year's keynote will reflect on the challenges and goals of communicating historians' nuanced approach to the past to non-specialists, including undergraduate students. Drawing upon Paul's scholarship and her own, Johnson will explore various approaches to teaching and writing that Paul used, valued, or inspired. Johnson's recently-published historical novel, The Species Maker, will be a particular focus of the talk. If you would like to read the novel prior to the talk, copies can be obtained from Amazon, the University of Alabama Press, or by emailing Kristin at kristinjohnson@pugetsound.edu.
Keith Benson will introduce the keynote speaker.
The Nancy & Norman Benson Keynote is endowed by a founding member of the CHSG community, Keith Benson. Keith endowed the keynote to honor his parents in 2013.
