Mission Statement:
To transition and prepare students for post-secondary goals by creating, teaching and building opportunities and supports that foster their full participation within their school & community.
Overview:
The Transition Program at the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District is designed for students at Parsippany Hills and Parsippany High school grades 9-12. It is designed to teach independent living skills focusing on vocational skills. Within this program, students will identify:
work abilities
determine job preferences
learn to increase individual skill sets
Students will participate in Community Based Instruction trips. These trips may include, but are not limited, to:
local supermarkets
retail stores
automotive shops
wholesale stores for job exploration
When a student turns 16 years, they will participate in Work Based Learning Experiences. These students will work in the community with a job coach 1-2 times a week. All students will visit the PAES Lab on a monthly schedule. The PAES Lab is set up to create a typical job setting in the community with 264 job tasks. The main objective of the Transition Program is to focus on career awareness and job development. These experiences will help motivation and concentrate on learning the work skills needed for productive living.
