Mission Statement:
To transition young adults from school to adulthood by creating, teaching and building opportunities and supports that foster their full participation within their community.
Overview:
Our Successful Transition And Readiness Training (S.T.A.R.T) Program within the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District is designed for young adults ages 18-21. These students have completed their high school requirements for graduation, but need additional programming to prepare them with their transition from entitlement education to adulthood. S.TA.R.T offers an individualized opportunity for each student to develop academics through functional life and employment skills. These hands-on, natural learning experiences provide students with knowledge and tools to support their transitional goals to adult life. The amount of time each student may spend in any setting will be determined by his or her individual needs.
Components of the S.T.A.R.T program include:
Work Based Learning
Social Skills
Daily living skills:
physical education opportunities within community
simulated "apartment"
Community Based Instruction (targeting various domains)
