Project Based Learning

Project-based learning is a dynamic classroom approach where our students actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire deeper knowledge into a topic they chose or one we decide as a group.

This type of learning is seen in the upper grade STEAM classes or in the Gifted Education classroom due to the time needed for the projects to be completed.

Students work on projects over an extended period of time. These projects span from a few weeks to an entire marking period. They engage student to solve a real-world problem or answer a complex question. Students are then expected to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by developing a product that shows how they were able to solve this problem. The products are created in the STEAM classroom and the students have all the tools necessary to create their vision. They have access to robotics, 3-D printers, Arduinos, green screen technology, circuitry, tinkering supplies, Skype, I-Pads, and every student in our school has an MacBook Air computer with I-Movie, Keynote, the entire Microsoft Office Suite, and all the components of Google Classroom at their fingertips.

As a result, students develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills in the context of doing an authentic, meaningful projects.

Project Based Learning empowers students to be creative and driven, it allows them to have a voice and be in charge of their own learning.
