This year, thanks to the successful Spring Gala fundraiser in May, our school has TWO up-and-running gardens (one in the Kinder area, and one at the back of the big grass area).
The TK/K garden got a much-needed remodel this summer. The old wooden beds were replaced with sturdier and safer blocks. Brand new soil and plants were added. The grapevine got a nice trim, and it's actually producing little grapes!
In the big garden, we planted a Dorsett Golden Apple tree, a Meyer lemon tree, and a mandarin tree. Also, four large umbrellas were added to provide cooling shade. Shout out to 5th grader Logan Pham for building all of these umbrellas over the summer!
We have 4 chickens in the big garden. The senior, blonde chicken is "Glinda." Each of the three white chickens were named by an SES student that won the "Name That Chick!" rights at the Spring Gala fundraiser. If you get a chance to meet them, the one with a few black feathers is "Emerald"; the one with a brown spot on her right wing is "Poppy"; and the one with the brown spots on her left wing is "Miss Pearl Lavender Fluffybutt."
The white hens should start laying eggs in November as they will have reached maturity by then, but these are just eggspectations, no guarantees.
