Another year, another celebration!
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it did not stop the College of Sciences (CS) from celebrating the Opening Ceremonies of the 2021 Science Month, with a theme: “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon”, that was held last September 7, beginning at 8:30 in the morning thru Zoom and Facebook Live.
More than 300 participants, including the students, faculty, and staff of CS, other visitors, and Science enthusiasts from different parts of the country, have attended the said virtual opening program. With the Masters of Ceremony, Mr. Jaybie Arzaga, a faculty member from the College, and Ms. Marian Albos, a third-year BS Biology student, the program formally started with an opening message from the Dean of CS, Prof. Imelda Lactuan. In her message, Prof. Lactuan reminded everyone of the effects of the pandemic and the importance of science and technology to overcome the situation.
The opening ceremony highlighted the set of activities for the Science Month celebration headed by the CS faculty and different college organizations such as the College of Sciences - College Student Government (CSG), Compendium, Young Biologists' Association (YBA), Environmental Science Students' Association (ESSA), Society of Information Technology Enthusiasts (SITE), and Association of Computer Scientists (ACS), to be enjoyed by their constituents. It also highlighted the presentation of the newly elected officers of these organizations for the Academic Year 2021-2022 and their virtual oath-taking ceremony.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) of Palawan State University (PSU), Dr. Elucila M. Sespeñe, also delivered her speech and formally opened the Science Month celebrations. The virtual opening program officially ended by singing the PSU hymn and with virtual photo opportunities.
This ceremony formally kickoffs a series of activities which will be hosted by the College. These events are open for all, and it includes forums, webinars, online competitions and contests, to be attended by both students and faculty alike.
