The COMPENDIUM, established on Academic Year (AY) 2015-2016 as an independent student organization and the official student publication of College of Sciences, is the successor of the collegiate publication dependently operating under the College Administration, with the same name.
For years, the publication served to represent the College itself. With less engagement with the students, the publication went into hiatus, due to lack of support from the students who not only compromises the body, but also the publisher of the said paper, thru a mandatory collection during enrollment.
With the publication funds cumulating without a tangible output, members of the publication for the academic year of 2014-2015, under the leadership of Analyn Hasim, proposed for the Compendium to be organized as an independent student organization, published by the studentry, for the studentry. It is also the year when the publication purchased its own desktop computer, boosting the efficiency of the publication as whole.
Within the same academic year, the Compendium published its pilot newsletter, though still under the direct supervision of the College Dean, Dr. Sonia Bonagua, managed to produce a student-oriented paper.
With its success, the said newsletter paved the way for the Compendium to be recognized, not only by the College of Sciences but also the University itself, as an independent, student-oriented and self-sufficient student institution, joining the ranks of other progressive college-based organizations that time.
As a result of this recognition, the publication become more proficient that it published a newsletter and a tabloid, during the service as Editor-in-Chief of Lory Mhel Sabio, AY 2015-2016. During her term, Sabio was able to send selected members of the publication to participate in press conference with the College of Editors Guild of the Philippines.
With Mr. Larry Caduada as adviser, representing the Administration, this endeavor made the publication to be more productive, by improving the quality of the paper, thru trainings and workshops for the Editorial Board and Staff. The Editorial Board maximized the publication fund that it was able to produce a graphic tab for illustrations, lanyard and uniform for identity and provide incentives for every contribution made by active members, increasing the morale of the publication as whole.
Academic Year 2016-2017, with Nathaniel Cadiao Jr. as the Editor-in-Chief, the Compendium moved out from the Dean's Office and utilized the vacant space inside the power room for the IT Building, though short-lived due to safety and hazard concerns. Cadiao continued the momentum of moving up the scale of productivity, by maintaining the presence of "Kumpe" as it has been informally referred to by its members and readers, both in printed and digital media. All of the previously established projects have been sustained, plus the purchased camera for photography and coverage and the procurement of the publication-dedicated printer.
The Compendium maintained its active participation with the continued development of the college as whole, that it released its first literary folio, coined "MOMENTUM" with Ana Molleno at the helm, academic year 2017-2018.
Following the steps laid out by its previous Ediorial Board, Molleno passed the torch to Marwin Macola for AY 2018-2019. The Compendium moved next to the CSG office. Macola sustained all of the pre-established operating procedure, outlined from the Republic Act 7079 also known as the Campus Journalism act of 1991.
Appointed as the 6th Editor-in-Chief of the publication for the AY 2019-2020, Princess Noreen Maglacas brought much needed change to the Compendium. The highlight of which is her leadership during the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the publication to become more relevant to the College of Sciences Community. Maglacas has also been instrumental in facilitating much needed reforms to solidify and enhance the credibility and reliability of the Newsletter in the eyes of the College.
For the academic year 2020-2021, with Danica Faye Escalona as its new appointed Editor-in-Chief, the publication is still adamant on serving its purpose, the literal manifestation of a compendium, to record and pass down knowledge, to inform and educate, to empower and mobilize, all for the advancement of College of Sciences studentry.
