(transcript available below)Message from Prof. Imelda R. Lactuan, Dean of the College of Sciences
A pleasant morning to all, especially to the freshmen students of the College of Sciences.
I will take this opportunity to thank you for choosing the College of Sciences as your training ground for your future aspirations. My dear students, you are in good hands.
As the great philosopher Marcus Aurelius once said, "Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and truly all that comes under thy observation in life."
The ongoing developments in terms of clean sustainability, in medicine and the likes, had been fueled by human observations and hunger for knowledge and development. That being said, never stop exploring beyond the books, ask questions and search for answers.
Keep the ball of knowledge rolling, don't be afraid to ask why and how, because only then will you understand and find the answers. And being students in the College of Sciences, you should always strive to make the world a better and safe place to live in.
In the midst of this pandemic, the University had taken all precautionary measures to ensure your safety as well as to provide you with quality education. Your professors had attended webinars and training to be well-equipped to adapt to this new normal, in both online and offline mode of learning.
We are all affected by this pandemic, our normal way of living had been compromised. For us to overcome this, we need to work hand-in-hand, students, parents and teachers. One cannot exist without the other two. Without rain, nothing grows. Let us learn to embrace the storms of our lives.
We may not be meeting face-to-face, but rest assured that providing you with quality education is always the top priority of the university, and specifically, the College of Sciences.
My dear students. be involved! We all have our limitations but these should not cripple us in achieving our goals.
As I end this message, let me leave you with the words from Albert Einstein. He said: "Most people say that it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is the character." This year is the first year that all of us are adjusting to this "new normal", and it's up to all of us to make this successful.
In behalf of the Faculty and Staff of the College of Sciences, I welcome you all, our future students, to the School Year 2020-2021. Let us enjoy and strive for the betterment of our future. God bless us all and stay safe. (end)
