Throughout my involvement of the undergraduate literary journals Kalliope and KLIO I have gained experiences to apply in my future career that were strengthened outside of the classroom. The creative abilities of my peers have truly enhanced my appreciation for the world of literature.
Kalliope
Kalliope is the student run undergraduate literary journal for Penn State's main campus. As a member of this journal I have had the opportunity of working on three committees as well as holding the leadership position as Distribution Chair and now Fiction Head. As a member of the fiction committee I worked with others to decide which submissions should be published in the fall chapbook Folio and journal Kalliope. As a copyediting member I helped edit accepted submissions to enhance the voice of the author. On the production committee I helped create the physical copy of both Folio and Kalliope as I imported pieces into Adobe InDesign ensuring the proper formatting for the printed version.
KLIO
Through the development of Kalliope's online sister magazine, KLIO, I had the opportunity to work as Managing Editor. As Managing Editor I worked closely with the Editor-In-Chief to create an online literary journal that best fit the theme of "Dreams and Nightmares." In the cultivation of this website I sketched the home page, worked with fiction and non-fiction committees to accept submissions, copyedited accepted pieces (including the entirety of poetry), and worked closely with each committee head to ensure that the aspirations for their branches of the site were being upheld.
