Based on the recent list of the National Competitive Examination (NCE) passers released in 2019, only one out of the 1404 passers that consented to having their name posted online came from Quezon province (The Summit Express, 2019). However, 136 passers requested that their names not be posted, so there is a possibility that a student from Quezon may be part of that. Additionally, the top 1540 students are the principal qualifiers. If they declined their slot, the top performing students that ranked after them are contacted. Thus, there may have been more passers from Quezon.

In the list of the NCE passers for 2018, among 1427 qualifiers’ names published, there were five qualifiers from Quezon (The Summit Express, 2018). Two among these five qualified for the Main Campus and the rest qualified for the CALABARZON Region Campus.

In the list of 2017 NCE passers, two students qualified from Quezon: one qualified for Main Campus and both qualified for CALABARZON Region Campus (The Summit Express, 2017). Overall, only a miniscule number of passers are from Quezon, consisting of around five out of approximately 1500 students per year.

The low number of qualifiers from Quezon could be the result of the difficulty of the test or the lack of examinees from Quezon. It was also discovered that people from Quezon are unaware of the possible opportunities of studying at a science high school. There is a lack of resources in supplying the knowledge and ability to take and pass the NCE to students from the province, specifically Quezon.

The scope of this project focuses mainly on NCE topics; however, it may be used for other science high school entrance exams and as supplementary modules for the students' high school years.

To raise awareness regarding the accessibility of quality education at science high schools through the provision of supplementary physical modules for selected Grade 5 students.
