The community project devised modules aimed to provide assistance to the selected provincial school. Two tests were conducted in order to assess the effectiveness of the modules; along with a post-evaluation at the end of the project. The modules developed contained lesson explanations, review questions, and a study guide. These helped strengthen and assess the knowledge of students. The implementation of the project also brought understanding to teachers, students, and parents about the impact of education and the benefit it gives. The modules served as a learning opportunity and a tool for the National Competitive Exam (NCE) and other similar high school entrance exams. The post-test resulted in an improvement in the knowledge of the students on the topics given as the range of the students' scores decreased when compared to the pre-test. Additionally, the post-test was of greater difficulty.
The project was able to encourage students to pursue higher education. The modules continue to serve as reviewers for their upcoming years as high school students. Thus, it can be concluded that the project was able to raise awareness regarding the accessibility of quality education at science high schools through the provision of modules for the selected students.
Time restrictions led to dropping some of the topics to be covered by the modules. The continued implementation of the project will allow more time for modules to be developed and expand their coverage. The content of the modules also requires re-assessment. The inclusion of more experts in the topics and longer time for assessment can clear mistakes and confusion. Future module creation should also add more examples to allow students take their time in breaking down the topics.
The difficulty of the pre-tests and post-tests should also be carefully considered. The pre-test should be relatively easy while the post-test should incorporate more complex questions, taking into account how the students should already be familiar with the topics.
A chance to meet the community directly would be extremely beneficial. Questions by the students could be easily answered, confusion could be cleared, and extra information could be disseminated. Incorporation of easier ways to approach a topic or strategies in studying should also be included into the project. This way, learning would be more stimulating and exciting.
