A Math mentoring session followed a week after the experiment showcase—March 22, 2023. One of the researchers handed a pre-test to gauge the Mathematic abilities of selected fifth-grade students from KNLES in the following topics: operations on similar and dissimilar fractions, order of arithmetic operations, and basic geometry (perimeter, area, and volume). The students were then grouped based on the lesson they scored lowest. Each member was assigned a group of students to teach a specific topic according to their pre-test scores.
Part 1: Multiple Choice and Matching Type
Order of Arithmetic Operations (MDAS)
Operations on Similar and Dissimilar Fractions
Geometry
Part 2: Short Answers
Order of Arithmetic Operations (MDAS)
Operations on Similar and Dissimilar Fractions
Geometry
Students who performed exceptionally well were given more advanced questions on the same topics mentioned above. All students were given Math modules as their guide during the discussion.
After the mentoring session, one of the researchers handed out a post-test to confirm the effectiveness of the activity. Both the pre-test and the post-test had the highest possible score (HPS) of 15 points and were printed in English and Filipino.
