The Light of the Moon Theatre Company offers a Co-Curricular designed education. Students can take the following courses in progression and have the opportunity to earn CTE (Career & Technical Education) credentials with the expanded ability for work study within the professional community.
Courses below are offered during the school day with contextual learning opportunities that continue with our afterschool productions and thespian troupe.
Discover the magic of theatre behind the scenes in Introduction to Technical Theatre. Students explore set design, lighting, sound production, costuming, and props gaining hands‐on experience in the art of bringing performances to life. Through collaborative projects and exposure to industry‐standard equipment, this class offers a solid foundation for those interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. This class is offered as part of the CTE middle school pathway.
This one semester class emphasizes acting skills such as improvisation, scene work, oral interpretation and reader’s theater. Students learn techniques for confidence on stage: relaxation, imagination. At THS: This class includes audition techniques, movement, voice, improv comedy, and scene study. This course also gives a brief introduction to theater history and technical theater.
Students will explore advanced vocal and movement techniques. Students will perform monologues, scenes, and prepare for successful auditions. The course will culminate with an informal performance of a 1-act production.
Students will explore the history of musical theatre, costume design, set design, and production. They will gain skills necessary to become a triple threat (actor-singer-dancer) or theatre technician. Students will participate in the Spring Musical. This class will meet 2nd & 3rd Quarter, giving students credit for their involvement in the mounting of a broadway-style musical.
Students will explore methods of constructing and painting scenery and properties, operating stage lighting and sound equipment, and implementing costumes and multimedia. This course explores the proper procedures of serving on stage crews, and explores careers in technical theatre. Upon completion of both levels, students have the opportunity to take the BACKStage Exam offered through USITT.
This course emphasizes theatrical lighting design and construction, including color theory, safety in electrical and equipment construction, and use of consoles and instruments. Students construct light plots, electrical schedules and design lighting for theatrical performance.
Learn the basics of mixing music for live and recorded sound. Learn the use of mixing consoles, equalization, FX, routing/patching, and use of Qlab software.
