Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a motivational reading program. The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to improve reading comprehension, and to promote academic excellence. Lists of book are chosen for grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Students form teams, read the books, discuss them, and quiz each other on the contents. Each team needs to have an adult coach/sponsor who helps keep the team organized and motivated along the way. Practice questions are available for teams to use in preparation for the actual battle. A quiz show format is then used with all the teams to see which team answers the most questions correctly.
