Grading Policy/Absent Work
Grades are viewable in Parent Vue and Student Vue and are updated weekly. Blevins utilizes Standards Based Grading.
Grading
Scores
4 = above grade level/advanced
3 = proficient and meets expectations of the learning target
2 = partially meets expectations of the learning target
1 = does not meet the expectations of the learning target
0 = The assignment is missing
A grade of "0" in StudentVUE indicates that the assignment was never turned in.
When a student is absent, they are still responsible for the completion of all work assigned, regardless if they are present when it is assigned. Students can access our Daily Math Google Slide on our math google classroom site. Daily slides will list all activities for the day and often assignments will be linked or videos available. Students are encouraged to contact me to request missing work by email or upon returning. Students are provided two days for each school day missed to make up work for an excused absence.
Any test retakes must be completed no later than two weeks after it has been posted on Synergy. Reassessment of tests will be available once the activities leading up to tests are completed and the test questions missed are corrected.
Communication
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. It is my firm belief that clear communication between home and school can only benefit the students, so I welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your child and his/her academic and social development.
Contacting me through Email is the most reliable way to get a hold of me. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours with the exception of emails on the weekend. If you would like to request a meeting with me, we can schedule that through email. I can be available before school, after, or sometimes during my planning time.
All due dates for assignments are posted on the whiteboard in the classroom for upcoming due dates, quizzes, and tests. You will also see due dates on our Weekly 6th Grade Newsletter emailed to parents and students on Fridays.
Math homework is given on Monday and due on Friday each week. Math homework is placed in the math section of their binder. Students also have 20 minutes of IXL to be completed at home weekly.
Math Class Expectations
Students are expected to follow the Bruin P.A.W.S matrix in the classroom at all times. Students are expected to be Productive, Accountable, Welcoming, and Safe.
Come to class prepared.
Work on math material during class time, not work from another class.
Ask questions when you are confused by the instructions or are not sure how to complete your work. It is still my job to help you and helping students is my favorite part of teaching. Please never hesitate to ask for help if it is needed.
Be patient and flexible. if you are patient and flexible with me, I will be patient and flexible with you. We will make this work together.
Required Materials and Supplies
1 composition notebook for math.
Binder with dividers (one section will be for math)
Pencils LOTS!
Colored pencils
Computer with charger
Headphones not wireless
Homework
Students will be given homework on Monday, and it is due on Friday.
Late work will be accepted. Homework is practice, and I want students to practice the skills we are learning in class. If a student or family has an unexpected life situation that arises during the week, please contact me before school starts on Friday, so I know there was a reason for homework being late. All homework for a unit is due two weeks after the Chapter test. I will not get a notification when you turn it in digital work, so you must talk to Mrs. Griese. I will change your grade once I know you turned in missing work. After the two-week period, I will no longer accept late homework for that unit.
Students may have additional homework such as Big Ideas, Formative, or PlayPosit that was worked on in class. If they did not get it done during class work time, they are responsible for finishing at home.
Additional homework, such as reviewing for a quiz/test, vocabulary, study guides, or videos may also be assigned during the school year.
