Many children face issues and stresses that can affect their academic achievement. With this in mind, I offer a variety of counseling experiences for children who may benefit from emotional support. Groups form throughout the year based on need.
Counseling groups can help kids learn to get along with their peers through listening, sharing, taking turns and compromising. Groups can help students learn that they are not the only ones experiencing certain feelings, which is especially helpful for students who have been through a change like divorce or loss of a loved one. Groups are made up of 6-8 students of similar age meeting in 30-minute sessions once a week for 9 weeks. Groups are typically held during lunch recess so that your child won’t miss any academics.
Group topics include:
Getting along with others
Anger management
Divorce or family change
New to school
Making friends
Death or illness in the family
Stress or anxiety
Impulsivity
Affective support for gifted & talented
