Raise Your Hand Students can use Zoom's Raise Hand feature to let the teacher know that they would like to speak, ask a question, or make a connection without interrupting the call visually or orally. Students can simply click on the participants tab (bottom center of screen) and choose Raise Hand. If a student decides that they do not need to speak they can lower their hand.
Thumb-O-Meter This Thumbs-Up formative assessment allows teachers to quickly gauge student understanding. The teach can prompt the students to share their understanding of a lesson by asking them to put their thumbs up to signal that they understand or thumbs down to signal that they have a question or don't get it. The teach can adjust the lesson based on the student's feedback. Students can signal thumbs up or down by using the reactions feature or other non-verbal feedback in Zoom or by just putting a thumbs up or down on screen. Learn more about Zoom's Nonverbal Feedback features.
Fist-to-Five To show degree of agreement, readiness for tasks, or comfort with a learning target/concept, students can quickly hold their fist up to the screen to show for 0/Disagree or 1-5 fingers for higher levels of confidence or agreement.
Red Light, Green Light Students have red, yellow, and green objects accessible (e.g. popsicle sticks, poker chips, cards), and when prompted to reflect on a learning target or readiness for a task, they place the color on their desk that describes their comfort level or readiness (red: stuck or not ready; yellow: need support soon; green: ready to start). Teachers target their support for the reds first, then move to yellows and greens. Students change their colors as needed to describe their status.
Exit Ticket The teacher asks a prompt such as tell me one thing you learned today, one new idea you are excited to try, one connections you made to something you already knew.... In Zoom or Meet the teacher calls on a student to share, they share, and then they leave the meeting. The teacher continues with exit tickets until all students have left the meeting.
WordSplash Ask students to share a word on a shared google document. The teacher can quickly copy all the words and paste them into a word cloud generator to create a wordcloud. The teacher then shares the word cloud with students by sharing their screen. Students can share how they are feeling, add key terms or concepts from the lesson, or make a connection to prior learning, or make predictions about what will happen. Word Clouds create create beautiful and meaningful graphics. where students can notice patterns with commonly used words.
Polls Use Google Forms or Poll Everywhere to ask students a quick multiple choice question and share the results. Teachers can check for student understanding, discover misconceptions, or bring in democratic approach to their class by asking for student input on what topic is most exciting to pursue further. Students share their thoughts and the teacher can share their screen to show the results through a visual representation.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Checks Teachers can utilize the features from Peardeck (A Google Slides Add-on) . Peardeck's Classroom Climate feature gives teachers an extra layer of insight into how students are learning. By gathering feedback about student mood and feelings of achievement, teachers can gain insight into the success of a lesson while helping students become more self-aware.
