Emilie from Zoo New England delivered two Blanding's hatchlings. After a presentation in the Multipurpose Room to fifth grader (the daily turtle feeding team) and their second grade buddies, the hatchlings moved into their new home in the Library. The teacher and parent volunteer team were trained by Emilie, then Grades PK, K, 1, 3, and 4 came through to take a peek at the turtles in the tank. Grades 6, 7, and 8 will visit September 23.

Hiding In Our Favorite Spots

The turtles had a good first week! Last Friday, they spent a lot of time hiding in the plants and behind their floating dock. This week, they are spending much more time swimming around and hanging out on the their dock, rather than hiding behind it, giving everyone who has come to visit a better view.
The turtle care teams started this week. A pair of fifth graders will be the feeding team each week, with their second grade buddies joining them Thursday mornings. On Friday mornings, the fifth grade feeders will train the following week's team. A pair of sixth graders will be the measuring team each week, recording weight and carapace length on Mondays.
Observation of the Week: the turtles eat much more when fed in their tank than when moved into a feeding tub.
