Getting To Know You

Kindergarten Social Studies Unit

Bridging the gap from student to student, between students and teachers, teachers and families. When we get to share who WE are as individuals - what we like, what makes us who we are, we are more able to connect to people in our environment. We can build meaningful relationships and learn different ways to express ourselves, our emotions, and listen and learn about other peoples point of view.

Getting to Know you Photo Collage and Photo-SlideShow, Creating a Wall of Fame of all students and staff

Two fold / On-going

In the classroom: The students will create a photo slideshow or video sharing about the things that are important to them and what/who/where they love/like.

Using technology the children will collect photos of things that they love (perhaps at the beginning of the year they will bring things into the classroom and the teachers will assist them in creating the images) and then the children will be asked to speak about all of the things in their collage. As the year progresses and the children grow they can continue to add to and change their photo slideshow or collage to share with their classroom peers and the school.

In the school: the children (and teachers) will create a photo representation/collage of all of the things that are important to them and what/who/where they love. All of these images will be placed in the hallways creating a Wall of Fame where the children can share about themselves as well as learn about their peers (making connections with peers/teachers) in the school.

In kindergarten the children are learning about one another and need to share about themselves and have a way to present this to peers and our school.
