Jessica Whelan is asking for the feedback form to be completed by all teachers administering the assessment by April 30th, 2022, so that we can make any further necessary changes for next year's assessments. The feedback form is linked below.
Directions for Writing:
1. Review the Student Writing Task instructions.
2. Review the rubrics and exemplars provided with students.
3. Read the topic out loud and have a brief discussion (10-15 minutes) with students. Record ideas at the front of the class and leave them displayed for the duration of the assessment.
4. Read the directions out loud and ensure that students understand the directions before they begin writing. (*Do not tell students how to plan or what to write.)
5. Students should be given 120 minutes (2 hours) to plan and write.
Encourage students not to spend too much time planning (as a guideline, no more than 15 minutes).
Use the Planning Page to plan your writing. You may brainstorm, web, draw or list ideas. Think of details that would be interesting and informative.
6. Students are permitted to use paper and pencil (If a student needs extra pages, you may provide them) OR a computer to perform the assessment. This is at the discretion of the teacher.
7. Students are permitted to use a dictionary and or thesaurus (online or paper copy) at the discretion of the teacher.
Remember to:
● consider your audience
● organize your writing
● focus on the purpose of your writing
● go back and edit and revise your writing before submitting it
Marking the Assessment:

Choose one sample to represent each of the four levels (1, 2, 3, and 4) and submit them to Kirstina Seerey by email with the subject line - PRSD Writing Assessment (*Please ensure students’ names have been removed.)
