A verb is a word that conveys ACTION (for example: run, fight, play, scream, etc...), OCCURRENCE (something happening or to take place, for example: became, etc...), or STATE OF BEING (for example: exist, seem, belong, etc...)

Verbs are needed to form complete sentences or questions.

In a sentence, a verb works as the main component of the predicate, the part of a sentence that indicates what the subject (person or thing) is or does.

Verbs can be expressed in different tenses, depending on when the action is being performed. Example: Jennifer walked to the store. In this sentence, the verb is "walked" it shows a state of being that was in the past, so it is a past tense verb.

State of being verbs do not express any specific activity or action but instead describe existence. The most common state of being verbs: is, am, are, was, were, being, been.
