Big Ideas

In this unit, students learn about concepts such as "rate of change," "linear relationship," and "vertical intercept." They deepen their understanding of slope and recognize connections between rate of change, slope, and constant of proportionality, as well as between linear and proportional relationships. They represent linear relationships using tables, equations, and graphs, including lines with negative slopes, vertical intercepts, and horizontal/vertical lines. They also learn about solving linear equations, systems of equations, scatter plots, associations, outliers, fitting lines to scatter plots, and assessing goodness of fit.
